- Get a piece of paper and colored pens, pencils, crayons or whatever medium you like to draw with. If you are not inclined to draw don’t worry you have no need to judge your artwork.
- At the center of the page draw an image (the best you can) that symbolizes the main subject of your song.
- Find a color that you feel suits the chords of your song and draw a line from the center image the length of the first line of a stanza of your song.
- Off of each branch draw the second, third, forth line of that stanza using different colors for each line corresponding to the chord you are using if you want.
- Do this for each stanza of your song.

Mind Mapping and Brainstorming
Having trouble learning the lyrics to a song? This was one of my biggest problems when I started. Mind Mapping or Brainstorming might help you learn faster. The challenge of remembering chords or vocal notes, keeping rhythm and singing the right words can be overwhelming.
A cool and fun way to help yourself remember your lyrics is “Mind Mapping”. This is a lot like brainstorming but with color and you can use images. Here is how you can develop a mind map to help you with a song.
The point of mind mapping is to use your mind to learn by associations. The mind map allows you to think creatively using colors and images to instill the lines of your song in your brain.
This method also works as a way to write a song by using words and images as association tools to spark ideas. Create a mind map of yourself to learn how to mind map. Draw your self in the center and branches of things you do and like, people you know and so on.
